Internship
"There was an immediate bond and sense of understanding. They were able to give me excellent guidance and incredible insight because they were once in my shoes.
"It's very reassuring, especially in an industry like film, to see firsthand...people who are doing exactly what you want to be doing"
- Jamie Dobie, Spring 2006 intern
Looking for experience with films or nonprofits? We're regularly looking for interns with whom we can work to make our films. Though positions are currently unpaid, we strive to make sure that our interns get as much from us as we get from them.
Past interns have worked with us at Fermilab, crewed Galileo's Grave, researched festivals, written grants, and hosted events. One even planted part of our producer's garden, but we swear that he really, really wanted to.
Current availability is in the following positions:
Assistant Producer / Executive Assistant
The aim of the producing and executive team at 137 Films is to provide structural, fiscal, and creative support to the artistic team by facilitating development, production, and distribution of the company’s films within a solidly operating nonprofit structure.
The Assistant Producer / Executive Assistant will make festival and distribution submissions, research and facilitate screenings with communities and schools, help logistically assemble new projects, execute the organization’s holiday mailing letter, and perform administrative tasks as necessary.
A high tolerance for ambiguity and a willingness to think outside normal internship requirements is recommended. Fundamentally, this is a very hands-on internship where much can be learned and accomplished by an engaged applicant.
Grant Writer / Research Assistant
The aim of the fundraising team at 137 Films is to raise funds from corporations, foundations, government agencies and individuals by completing grant applications, writing and preparing proposals and reports, arranging meetings with corporate and foundation prospects, and initiating other meaningful contact with donors and prospective donors.
The Grant Writer / Research Assistant will research prospective grant-makers, create a calendar of deadlines, develop a prospect database, complete grant applications, and perform administrative tasks as necessary. A high tolerance for ambiguity and a willingness to think outside normal internship requirements is recommended.
